About

Hello and welcome to ScribbleToons. My name is Roger, though I go by Buddha on most sites. Yes, I am Buddhist... though that has nothing to do with this site, so I don't know why you asked. Moving right along...

ScribbleToons is the result of several years mental anguish. Seriously.

No really.

You see, I've wanted to work on a webcomic for years now. Several projects fell through during that time, and for a while, I thought it would never happen.

Recently, I decided that if it were ever to get done, I'd have to get off my ass and make it happen. (Not that my ass is the one doing the drawing... in fact, I have to get on my ass to get the work done in this case... but I digress.)

I came up with an idea which I thought would be fantastic. I worked on my drawing skills... which are mediocre at best... and very nearly got the first strip completed.

Oh yeah... I'm all about the getting the work done.

The thing is, it was just taking too damn long. Between working full-time, having several kids at home (and a wife who also needs attention), I just didn't have the time to put out anything that looked half-decent. I was able to sketch the toons out at the office... even ink a couple of them... however the time involved in scanning them in at home, then digitally inking them and then coloring them? Fo'get about it.

I just don't have that kind of free time. I'm a writer as well (didn't mention that earlier), and I have a couple projects on the go right now (my 3rd collection of poetry has just hit the publishers and I'm working on a young adult adventure novel). Whatever free time I have needs to be devoted to my writing.

So I had to rethink this toon idea. And that is when I came up with the idea for ScribbleToons. Something fast and off-the-cuff. Something I could quickly draw at the office and then just scan at home and post. Simple as that. As my ol' man used to say; "No muss, no fuss." Not quite sure what that means, but I think it applies.

The principle behind ScribbleToons is that the punchline is what makes the toons funny. Amazing art helps, that's for sure, but it can't make you laugh (well, unless the joke is a visual gag).

So don't expect amazing pieces of art here. Certainly, every once in a while I'll try to put out something a little more cleaned up and occasionally, you may even see some color toons (time permitting)... however the bulk of the toons will literally be scribbled cartoons, often on lined paper from the pad here on my desk.

If that's not good enough for you, then gtfo.
